Light as a Material

How we treat daylight as a building material — shaping courtyards, screens and sections around the way the sun moves across a Saudi site.

Designing with the sun

At Module, daylight is never an afterthought. Before a single wall is drawn, we study how the sun tracks across the site through the year — where it is harsh at midday, where it grazes a wall at dusk, where a courtyard can hold shade.

That study becomes the section. Deep reveals, shaded loggias and carefully placed screens let us bring light in without bringing the heat with it. The result is architecture that feels cool, calm and rooted in place.

From heritage to detail

The Najdi tradition understood this centuries ago. We translate that intelligence into contemporary detailing — a mashrabiya reworked as a precast screen, a courtyard proportioned for the afternoon sun — so a home performs as beautifully as it reads.
